NOT-FOR-PROFIT / CHARITY CONTENT CAMPAIGN OF THE YEAR:

In the lead up to the lockdown calls to the London based domestic abuse charity Solace Women's Aid reached an all time high. Once lockdown hit, the phone lines went chillingly quiet. Women were unable to get to the phone to seek help, because they were being monitored 24/7 by their abusers.

This project has had a huge impact, it has been Solace’s first emergency campaign and the most successful campaign to date.

It has now raised over £1 million with the help of our videos, which transformed Solace’s ability to respond to the COVID-19 crisis for women and children they support.

They saw a 40% surge in demand for our services compared to this time last year. An emergency access fund was set up for women who had to flee their homes with nothing. One woman left with her 3 month year old baby and £7 in her pocket because it was her only chance to escape the violence she was facing. Thanks to the fund, Solace was able to provide her nappies, essential medicines, new clothes and a safe bed for the night. She said:

“This is the first night in 3 years I have slept and that I have felt safe in my bed.”

Across platforms the main campaign video had 2,000,000 views and over 11,000,000 impressions on Twitter, as well as over 2,000 views on Instagram with the others also receiving hundreds of thousands of views, likes, comments and retweets.

This project changed the lives of women who have been living with abuse, abuse that worsened in lockdown and our Crisis Accommodation Project has helped 94 women and 30 children who fled with nowhere else to go, on top of our 200 women in refuges.
